Sniffles...

But why do you FEEL like death; and more importantly, why are you here in the middle of June?

Honestly, I feel like it's just my luck to get a head cold in the summer especially when it's so nice outside. I kid you not, it's 75+ degrees and sunny and beautiful and I want to be outside this weekend soaking in the sunlight, not hiding inside like a mole. To be completely honest, I don't even mind having a cold in the winter. It's not that I like having a cold, it's just that if I had to pick a time to have one, this would not be that time. In winter you expect to get sick at least once, but not now!!! And what makes matter worse is that I didn't even get sick last winter!!!

I do feel like I've been doing a lot of complaining recently but this is my space (only a small pun intended) to do so. Anyway... I'm sick and it sucks and I'm happy that the weekend is coming in 3 hours and I can go home, close all the blinds, and snuggle in the for the next couple days. I never thought I would love 2 days (a.k.a. weekends) off so much but I do... Life is good here in Corporate America!

A Child in the Woods

Like a child in the woods, I feel lost. I might be lost. I have nothing to write about. My whit has forsaken me and my tack-like mind has fled. My Muse is long gone... Sing to me

When You Wish Upon A Star

"A dream is a wish your heart makes..." - Cinderella

OK, I'm going to very carefully try to describe my sweet, loving, and eternal obsession with all things Disney. For me Disney neither beings nor ends with Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Epcot, or anything else in-between. Disney is a mind set, a way of life, a religious (not to be confused with religion) experience. The feeling that I get when I'm at one of the parks, or watching one of the movies, or even just writing about it is one of pure joy. In fact, I have been known to cry at the famous words of Walt,

To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.
-Walt Disney July 17, 1955 (opening day at Disneyland)

Disneyland is my happy place and with my recent Disney discovery I feel untouchable. I was so excited I almost cried - I know, enough with the inappropriate emotional reactions to Disney things - when I learned about Kristie Kelly and Pascal Mouawad. To preface my explanation of who these two phenomenal people are I will explain a little about my childhood:

Every little girl watches Disney movies about true love where the characters just look at each other and their weddings are planned instantaneously. The magic and the love and the songs are a thrilling combination of everything we are raised to believe is real. OK, now, I know what I said earlier in my blog about being obsessed with wedding and not considering the marriage that follows, BUT, Disney can by-pass this and I am allowed to pour hours upon hours during my day into frivolous "I'm not getting married but wouldn't this be the coolest idea for a wedding" planning. There are other "freaks" like me out there dreaming about Prince Charming and what it will be like when he rides up on his horse (why is that guy always on a horse?) and at long last we can all rest assured that dreams really do come true. (Thanks, Cinderella)

So, now I can explain Ms. Kelly and Mr. Mouawad (modern day heroes if you ask me). Kristie Kelly is a designer; more specifically she is a wedding gown designer. And in Kristie's ingeniousness she decided to design a line of dresses made specifically for weirdos like ME!!! What does that mean? It means that this woman understand me better than anyone in the entire world. SHE MADE WEDDING DRESSES INSPIRED BY DISNEY'S PRINCESSES!!! I know, I know, I should probably calm down, it's only dresses, right? WRONG! This is so much more than dresses, this is dreams coming true and not only for me but for every little girl in the world who ever dreamed of utter perfection. As for Mr. Pascal Mouawad...

Pascal Mouawad is a jewelry designer to the stars. (He created the $12.5 million diamond bra for Victoria Secret, designed pieces for Heidi Klum, Seal, Nicole Richie, Kim Kardashian, and more). Continuing in the ingeniousness; Kristie and Pascal got together and now there is a Disney princess collection of engagement and wedding band rings! There is a ring for each princess and it's another dream come true.

So, I will end like this: every girl is a princess and deserves to be treated like one. Disney may have give us unrealistic expectations for our love lives, but who cares. Disney instilled the feeling of belonging, being beautiful, family, and if you really wish maybe someday your prince will come and you will know "True Love's Kiss".

We Coule Be Heroes Just For One Day

As a kid I always wanted a superpower. It would have satisfied me to no end even if I was just Mathilda powerful (i.e.: capable of moving things with my mind). Alas I grew up as average as the next Joe but that didn't keep me from dreaming about it. Now that I'm older I would still love a superpower but I think that my superpower would be the ability to read minds.

I guess I should re-phrase my wish. I wouldn't want to read all minds all the time; that would be too loud. I would be a selective mind reader. It would be so useful for getting the truth out of people or those difficult conversations where you just don't know what the other person is really thinking. I think that this would be especially helpful in talking to my boss. Imagine you're in a meeting asking for a promotion, a raise, or whatever you have finally mustered the courage to ask about; your boss is just sitting there in the chair across from you with a desk the size of kitchen island between you staring at you with an intensity that rivals Madame Tussaud's creations and you're sweating like a contender in the Kentucky Derby when you remember that you know what (s)he's thinking! Access granted! You're in! I mean, honestly, what a useful skill to have. And of course, "With great power comes great responsibility" so there must be a downside to this power, right?

The one downside that I could think of would be that I would know 100% without a doubt what that person is thinking. Well DUH! I would only be concerned because what if you found out something you didn't want to know? But sometimes you find things out about other people that you didn't want to know anyway, so I guess it's all the same. Everything in life has it's positive and negative attributes so I guess this would also fall into the same category.

What superpower would you have?
